the calling cards collection

And now for something a little different...

I brought home this stack of antique calling cards a while ago because I was so taken with the names and wonderful typefaces. I have been inspired to create animals based on each of the names and offer the stuffed along with its calling card. Because summer is upon us and my schedule is a bit more lax, I will be adding these to the shop as I make them rather than all at once. After I add an animal to the shop I will post about it here. Sound good? Look for the first addition soon...

cover the rocks of the world.

I made these felted rocks following the instructions here. I wanted to share the project with all you rock-lovers. I've never been able to keep any of the covered rocks I've made (I keep giving them to friends), so it's nice to have these.

I receive a lot of emails asking if it's okay to make things inspired by my collections as gifts or for their own homes. Yes! Yes, it is okay! Go for it! Cover rocks. Make toadstools. Fashion twigs. I think it's great. Unfortunately, at this time, I am unable to provide instructions and patterns or give sources for all my materials, etc. I would, one day, like to share a few patterns for the simpler things that I make, but pattern-duplicating is not nearly as exciting to me as actual creating, and so it continually gets put on the back-burner.

I am going to be doing something a little bit different in the shop over the next few weeks, so come back tomorrow to hear about that...

the dailies

Hi!

Last month, Erin over at design for mankind asked me to contribute to her dailies feature about the daily life of artisans and designers. My email was lost in her junk folder, and I completely forgot about it, but now the feature is up. You can see it here.

My son's favorite viking doll is from Herzensart.

picnic collection in the shop today!

You'll find trios of eyelet rocks in the shop today at 1:00 pm PST (8:00 pm GMT) along with the animals and toadstools that I've been sharing here. Unfortunately, I don't have the postcards sets yet that I've mentioned, but I'll add those at a later date.

Thanks!
